Need more time.

Time flies by when you’re having fun crocheting - but I keep wondering, where has all of the time gone in the day? Luckily, I keep photos of all my work to remind myself of the range of items I’ve created. You should also see how many movies and TV shows I’ve binged on Netflix, Stan and Disney+ etc while doing so (haha).

Did you know it takes at least 10 hours to make a crocheted stuffed toy (amigurumi)? A lot of people get shocked to learn this and comment on the amount of patience I have. Thankfully, crocheting is my favourite hobby so that I can put in all the time it needs. But why do I love it? Here are my top 3 reasons:

  1. It’s relaxing

It’s incredibly therapeutic. I’m not sure how to explain it. A lot of people can sit down with a cup of tea and watch TV to relax, which I used to do a lot, but I would always become so restless. I would get up in the middle of a TV show and do all sorts of things, like mist the indoor plants, bake sweets, vacuum cookie crumbs on the floor and etc. Holding a crochet hook and yarn is now a major part of my wind-down routine as it gets me into my zen zone.

  2. Opens up the imagination

There’s a feeling of euphoria that comes with releasing creative energy into my work. I’ve always known that I was the creative type with plenty of imagination, but couldn’t find my niche. Crocheting previously meant socks, granny squares and blankets to me before discovering amigurumi. Upon this discovery, my world turned upside down, inside out and there was fireworks. Thanks to social media, I’m now well connected and greatly inspired by pattern designers, fabric artists and other makers of amigurumi. The best part is that the imagination also sits within my terrific customers.

  3. Goals

Crocheting was just a hobby for a couple of months before I started receiving job requests from my friends and family. The more requests fulfilled, the more requests received. With a full-time job, I had to create a strict schedule and meet my deadlines. Time management was key. So looking back at my progress, I can say that I’ve accomplished something. Productivity and efficiency were my first few goals, then it was to start a business, think of a business name and I’m sure you can catch my drift. The goals don’t stop coming and I’m so grateful for each of them.

Ah, so there it is - my top 3. Although, I assure you there are more reasons for all of this patience, drive and motivation. For those who are reading this, I hope one of you is a genie who can grant me 3 wishes because I really do wish for more hours in a day.

“There is no rest for the wicked.”

Yours truly,
Jackie
